Iron Horse Country Ranch is a very unique place for kids and families to enjoy the outdoors. The owner and director was a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Instructor and father of two successful riders. We have the knowledge and experience in training new riders to get going safely.
All of our staff have received training, specializing in new riders on motorcycles. Through the years we have created drills and exercises to get beginner riders, riding well quickly, lessoning the risk of injury. More than a thousand riders have come through our programs in the last couple of years without any serious injuries. Our continued refinement of equipment, motorcycles and training programs have made it easier for kids and parents to ride safely. While others have quit or folded up shop we have devoted ourselves to keeping the sport alive for kids to ride. We are about the only existing camp left in the country because we have found the right way to manage riders, equipment and terrain to minimize the risk of injury in our unique summer camp program. Our staff is specially trained in our programs, for motorcycle education for children riders, combined with a low ratio of instructors to riders has lead to a safer experience for all.
The Ranch covers over 100 acres, about 30 minutes north of Austin between the towns of Bertram and Florence. It's in the middle of a thousand acres currently being used as a cattle ranch with a creek running through the middle and several ponds, including one for fishing. It's a great place to take a break from the city and see the Texas hill country, from the heavily wooded areas with grand old oak trees to the rolling prairie hills.
Families have enjoyed coming here and bringing friends and other families to the Ranch. Everyone has a blast exploring and riding the dirt bikes around the tracks and trails. We have a barn and a growing family of farm animals along with a herd of cows grazing the land. Helping to feed the cattle with hay rides and gathering eggs from the chickens makes for a thrilling experience!
The owner's own children were the inspration to start the camp , watching them grow dramatically from TV watching, video-game couch potatoes to energetic, "what are we going to do next", outgoing kids, since their experiences on the Ranch . They are councelors now at the camps. The dirt bikes aided in getting them outside. The motorcycles might have seemed like "monsters" to them at first but soon, their faces began to light up with the accomplishment of riding and the "monster" was gone! They now do anything to ride again - just like that Honda commercial " I want to Ride !" The attention they give to learn more is uncanny and the discipline they've learned is awesome. We would like to pass these experiences on to your children and parents. In looking for places to ride over the years , we've come to know what's important. We have built our Ranch with two goals in mind: to provide a great outdoor place for kids to gain confidence and have fun riding and to extend this experience to the entire family.
With all this in mind, a Kids Summer Dirt Bike Riding Camp was born. Safety is a priority. The director has been through the Motorcycle Safety foundation training program which has given us much insight into the training of new and veteran riders. We have now gone beyond their one day drills to a comprehensive week of riding dirt bikes aimed to many differnt levels of riders, specifically designed areas for training, from trails and motocross type terrain. Our proven practice drills will accommodate all levels of riders . Every rider starts the day with instructions then, experiences the adventures on the ranch in a creative way that aids learning while always with an instructor. Our dedication to teaching safe riding and injury prevention will help ensure your children and you will develop good riding skills while having a great time.
We have motocross tracks and lots of trails that are maintain with our equipment, bulldozer and tractor for the kids to have fun on.
We only use and allow trail motorcycles for liability and safety reasons and less hassle for all those coming out. It promotes a great environment for children and parents to learn and have a safe fun time on.
The Ranch opened in 2007 and has become the summer camp of choice for most kids, many coming now from other states , - "this is the greatest place ever !". We have grown since then and continue to remodel and tune our program to keep it the greatest place ever for kids. We encourage parents to come check us out - its not what you expect, its much more!
